Prejudgment
Example Essay
Society today can be really harsh on teenagers. It’s not easy for them
to find who they really are, when they know that everything they do and say and
even how they look like, is being prejudge and criticized. They are being judged by the way they dress
their family and even their past. Some teens don’t care about what people think
of them and live their life the way they want to and being happy with
themselves ignoring all judgment. But other are constantly caring about what people
think and trying to make them happy before themselves. It can be a big problem
when a teen knows that they are not accepted and being prejudged by something
that they can’t change, like their past. They feel like there is nothing they
can’t do to fix what they did and try to do better, but society doesn’t let
them move on.
The way that someone dresses is one of the ways that people use to prejudge
a person. If the person is dress in a way that society thinks in not correct,
they will criticize and will not accept that person. Let’s say that a man comes
into a doctor’s office dressed in black with a piercing on his nose and a
tattoo on his arm, sits next to you and asks you if he has to sign in. What would
you do? Maybe you would ignore him afraid that he is a gang member and try to
avoid eye contact with him. You may be right but maybe you’re not. It is hard not to judge a person for their
looks sometimes it can be good to prevent danger but other times is just harsh
to ignore a human being just because he or she is different and looks
different. Maybe that man is a doctor or a professor or just a man that is in
the doctor office to get treatment just like you.
To me, the way that society treats people that just look different and
think different is not the way that we should live, excluding and judging them without
knowing the person and what they have been through. Something like their past
should not be used against a person’s future. Some people try to change and do
better for themself but society judges them on their past and doesn’t let them
move on. Others are being judge by mistakes that a family member made;
something that is not even their fault is making them think that they are not
important. It’s not right to prejudge on
a person for what they have done, how they dress or even their family. The saddest
part of this problem is that it’s never going to change. Society needs to feel
like they are doing something right, so by judging other they feel like they are
better than others. Until society decides to accept what they are doing to
individuals and what they have done to themselves, living on prejudgment will
always exists.
